Mr. Trumbles business English class from Expedition Academy was on stage or “On Air” with Al Harris at the Radio Network talking about their radio show productions assignment that each student completes during the class.
One of the most feared, but also most fun projects in the Business English class is the 30 minute morning radio show production that each student has to write, record, and produce. Within this 30-minute program, each student will write and record a radio advertisement for a local business which includes a hook, a pitch, a call to action, and a slogan for that business. They must also produce and record a scripted entertainment piece or in some cases a public service announcement that is included in the program as well. Finally, within these 30 minutes, the students must tie the music that they pick with these other two elements together to form an entertaining, comprehensive, and cohesive program. This turns out to be a great way for students to understand the how, why, and importance of transitions in their speaking and writing. This seems overwhelming to the students at first, so it is very fun and rewarding to see the pride that they take in their finished products, all which sound like legit, professional work that is worthy of being on the radio.
